Didn’t 2009 just begin? Where has it gone? Can the year have ended so soon?!

There is good news!

 

 

Doesn’t that make you want to shout and sing? It does me.

 

We’re always on the lookout for Sabbath/Sunday issues in our world. Here’s one from Germany:

The Federal Constitutional Court ruled recently that the principle of rest on Sundays and public holidays is “sacrosanct.” This is a great disappointment to consumers and retailers who were hoping to broaden Germany’s restrictive store hours to include Sunday shopping. Church groups and labor unions joined forces to oppose turning Sunday into an ordinary business day.

 

Isn’t it ironic that in an extremely secularized European society like Germany, there are actually laws to protect Sunday as “sacrosanct?”

 

Labor unions have humanitarian and public welfare aims in mind; churches see the desecration of Sunday as both a cause and effect of society’s corruption. The alliance of these two groups in Germany may well be a harbinger of things to come.

 

But even there in Germany the Seventh Day series is making inroads. Here’s a message we just received from Stimme der Hoffnung, the German Adventist Media Center:

 

We are broadcasting it [The Seventh Day] on the HOPE Channel – and with a lot of positive response.

 

I’ve been watching the HOPE Channel for some weeks now, daily. I am a Christian but I see new perspectives now, the Sabbath for example, that is a very interesting topic, I think it is the truth. I’d like to know where there is an Adventist church nearby.

 

Two months ago I started watching your channel, since then we are in a “HOPE Channel fever.” I am very excited about the series about Daniel and the seventh day. People must know about this!

 

A while ago I watched a program about the Sabbath. It was so well explained, I wish people from my church could have watched the program.

 

I’ve just watched The Seventh Day. Where could I get more information, read about these studies myself. Do you have books or magazines about this topic?

 

Isn’t that encouraging?! The slow, tedious, and costly process of readying The Seventh Day for production in other languages is paying off. I am praising God for the work of our various translators in 2009. Let me update you on the rest of our foreign-language versions.

 

Danish: Subtitled translation done; DVDs available.

Dutch: Subtitled translation done; DVDs available.

Mandarin: Voice translation and subtitles done; ready for Internet streaming in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Romanian & Serbian: Ready for subtitling.

Czech: Script review in process; voice recording in January for Hope Channel release in February.

Portuguese (Brazil): Now in post-production with Brazilian host; duplication masters (Portuguese and Spanish) to be delivered to Brazil Media Center by January 31 for distribution and broadcast throughout the South American Division in May.

Portuguese (Portugal): Subtitling in process.

French: Voice translation ready for distribution soon.

Russian: Voice translation and production in process.

Arabic: Ready for voice recording.

Finnish: Awaiting script review.

Korean: Awaiting script review.

Polish, Norwegian, Hungarian: Scripts being translated.
