Emmy-winning actor Hal Holbrook hosts this five-part series exploring the origins, history, and current attitudes toward the Sabbath, a religious day of rest signaling the end of God’s work of creation, and cited in the Ten Commandments as a day to remember and keep holy. Beginning with a look at evidence of Sabbath observances from early creation myths from around the world. The Seventh Day features interviews with a variety of historians and theologians who weigh in on the significance of the Sabbath in various cultures and religions, while also addressing the meaning of and practices related to the Sabbath over four millennia across geographic boundaries and religions. A well-produced series (also available in a Spanish version—Un Santuario en el Tiempo, hosted by Frank Gonzalez) that will add breadth and depth to the viewer’s understanding of God’s decreed day of rest and worship, this is recommended.
